The Electoral Literacy Cell
The Electoral Literacy Cell (ELC) has been established by the HEI to actively involve students in activities that raise awareness about their electoral rights and acquaint them with the registration and voting processes. Its goal is to instill a culture of active electoral participation among the youth, who are the future voters.
Objectives:
- Increase awareness and understanding of the electoral process among students.
- Promote the importance of voting as a fundamental right and civic duty.
- Target various demographic groups, including youth, women, minorities, and differently-abled individuals, to ensure a broad understanding of electoral processes.
- Educate citizens about electoral laws, rules, and regulations to empower them with knowledge about their rights and responsibilities.
- Integrate technology to disseminate information effectively, such as through mobile apps, websites, and social media platforms.
- Provide information about the entire election process, including voter registration, polling booth procedures, and counting methods.
- Promote ethical voting practices and discourage malpractices such as bribery, intimidation, and vote-buying.
Methodologies:
- Conduct interactive workshops and seminars at educational institutions, community centers, and workplaces.
- Implement training programs for election officials, volunteers, and community leaders who can further disseminate information.
- Develop and distribute pamphlets, booklets, and online resources to provide easily accessible information to the public.
- Collaborate with government & non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society groups, and community leaders to reach diverse populations.
- Organize community events, rallies, and street plays to engage directly with citizens at the grassroots level.
- Conduct surveys to understand the effectiveness of awareness campaigns and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
- Organizing regular voter registration camps in collaboration with local Election Commission authorities.
- Celebrating events such as Constitution Day, Voters Day, Democracy Fortnight, etc., to instill human and constitutional values.
- Engaging in activities and games that stimulate and motivate students, prompting them to think critically and ask questions about the electoral process.
