The Chemistry Department was established in 1991 with the introduction of the B.Sc. and M.Sc. course in 2008. The primary goal of department is to educating and cultivating the skills of students, enabling them to pursue lifelong learning and engage in community services.  It is widely recognized as one of the premier departments affiliated with SPPU Pune, renowned for its excellence in teaching, learning, research, and co-curricular activities. Notably, it has been acknowledged as a DST-FIST & DST-SERB sponsored department. The department till date has not recognition as a research department. But most of the faculty members are engaged in research guidance since 2012, joining to other colleges recognized research departments. To date, ten research scholars are registered for doctoral degree and department has produced 3 Ph.D. and 1 M.Phil. Awardees. The department’s laboratory is fully equipped with the latest instruments required for practical experiments & research. Research activities encompass diverse areas such as computational chemistry, supra-molecular chemistry, host-guest chemistry, electrochemistry, nano-materials, chemical-sensors, biosensors, coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, and green chemistry. The faculty, consisting of eight members, holds Ph.D. and NET/SET qualifications, bringing extensive experience in both teaching and research. Additionally, the faculty members serve as members of the Board of Studies in Chemistry at SPPU, actively engaging in various academic, administrative, and extension activities within the college. The department’s primary objective is to provide a rigorous and comprehensive education in chemistry to develop well-rounded graduates and postgraduates with the goal of producing highly competent fellow suitable in teaching and research area. To support researchers including collaborative colleges, the department has established a central instrumentation facility. Moreover, it proudly possesses a strong alumni network, comprising individuals who have achieved notable success in their specific professions and have made substantial contributions to the progress of both national and international organizations. Faculty members have contributed significantly to the publication of research papers in national and international conferences and peer-reviewed journals. To date, the department faculties has published 145 research papers with maximum impact factor 70 and minimum 1. In terms of extra-curricular activities, faculty members and UG, PG students engage in Certificate courses such as Analtyical instrumentation handling, providing training to develop entrepreneurial skills to cope with global requirements. The department’s alumni stood first in UG examination and PG entrance examination (All India entrance examination for M.Sc. Chemistry) conducted by SPPU (Savitribai Phule, Pune University, Pune). Also, hold esteemed positions globally, reflecting the success and impact of the education provided.
